Speed Is Key

I fucked up. Kind of.

Last week I released a giveaway - my first one in months.

And lo and behold, it flopped. At least considering the metrics (views, followers, email subs), it was by far the worst-performing one that I ever launched.

If you don’t count the legendary ‘Motivation Masterclass’ I released on my first account at around 200 followers or something.

The funny thing is - while I spent maybe around 4 hours making my first-ever giveaway, I spent over 100 hours building my most recent one.

Both performed horribly.

Which is interesting in a few ways.

First, by spending so much time building, it inevitably ended up being too long. I had to strike almost half the content before I even considered releasing it.

Second, I started becoming obsessed with the details. The more work you put into something, the better you expect it to become. At some point though I was simply running in circles, trying to reword every single sentence for readability.

Third, the sheer amount of damn time you spend developing something that essentially flops, it does feel wasted. 100 hours isn’t a small amount of time. Add all the other logistics, including a new welcome sequence, the design, landing page, and marketing, that’s another few hours I’ll never see again.

Obviously these hours add up to experience.

As the Hormozi quote goes:

“The work works on you more than you work on it”.

The time spent building wasn’t wasted. And even if the launch itself flopped, the asset I’ve built is designed to be a long-term one.

Yet, in the last weeks, I’ve (re-)learned a lesson that’s just so damn crucial I want to share it with all of you:

SPEED IS KEY

I realized I need to move faster.

Much much faster - not only for views and email subs, but for client acquisition, gaining data and experience, and trying and testing.

If you’ve read the giveaway, it was clearly targeting creators, designed for creators, and in general, made for the money X bubble - if you’re reading this you’re probably a creator yourself.

Let’s just say, I’m changing things up for the future.

I need more data.

I need more experience.

I need to experiment more, and I need to do it faster.

In the next weeks, I’ll be rapidly experimenting with different strategies, ideas, and angles.

I’ll be sending you more emails, more insights, and give you more free stuff. I’ll also promote more offers, more opportunities and more things that will help you become more productive and level up your performance.

In all of this, I’m promising you I won’t repeat the mistakes I made in the past when I did move way faster:

Half-assing anything.

I made that mistake with basically everything already - content, free stuff, and even paid stuff, so much so that I felt sleazy promoting it. And while that’s a few months back, I’m not going to fall back into that trap.

People like saying quality over quantity.

And I definitely won’t argue with that.

So fuck it, I’ll do both.

Hope you enjoyed this different, ‘build-in-public’ style email - I want to continue being transparent with all of you and deliver the best emails I can write up.

Please feel free to reply anytime if I fail to do so. The more feedback I receive, the better I can adjust to what YOU want to see from me :)

See you soon (with big things coming fast),

Henri
